The rugged Montana landscape has helped develop and enhance Fred's artistic ability as well as his keen perception of outdoor habitats. His experience as a fire lookout and a smokejumper with long hours of observation, have added to his style which vividly convey a deep understanding and love of nature.

Boyer's log home at the edge of the mountains in Anaconda, near Fairmont Hot Springs reflect years spent in the outdoors as well as his love of wildlife and art.

A set of snowshoes decorate one wall, African masks and spear another and a cheerful log fire blazes in the corner. Fred has a continuous string of visitors to his studio who he welcomes with a smile and a quick tour before getting back to work. Often visitors buy pre-cast work-in-progress

Fred is active in the local artists community, holding joint exhibitions with artists such as fellow Anacondan Roger Wyant.

The studio is a separate golden log building a few steps from his home, with the same fabulous remote vista or the Pintler mountains. Fred often watches herd of elk from the studio's large loft window. The walls are covered with mounted trophies, reminders of years in the outdoors, in Montana, Africa, and Alaska (he still holds an active guiding licence for Alaska)
